Accompanied by Indian classical and Western musicians, Images presents a variety of Kathak repertoires that reflect the transition of this ancient classical style into modern and postmodern times.
Integrating the inspirational visualisation of Kathak by Nilima Devi with the choreography of India's leading Kathak gurus, Images seeks to evoke the essence of Kathak in a changing temporal and spatial context. By switching melodious and rhythmic structures, Nilima Devi reveals the 'images' of Kathak that define and represent its stylistic uniqueness.
Nilima Devi and Company includes four dancers, three Indian musicians, (tabla, sitar, vocal), three western musicians (jazz, Irish pipe and guitar) and a technician.
Nilima Devi is interested and inspired by cross-cultural collaborative projects and seeks to produce groundbreaking, stunningly choreographed dance items combining distinct musical and dance styles with storytelling and digital visual arts.
