You can trace CICD’s history through multiple video recordings. 

These videos range from early 1980s to present, showing various projects created and performed by Nilima Devi, CICD’s students, teachers and community.

Kaliya Daman (1987)

The very first Kathak story-telling performed by students of CICD at Haymarket Theatre, organised by Arts in Education and Leicester City Council. The story represents the victory of good over evil where Krishna defeats cobra Kaliya and dances on its head.

The Ugly Duckling (1989)

Kathak dance-drama based on Hans Christian Andersen's Tale 'The Ugly Duckling'.This production presented nearly 60 people aged 7 - 55 from schools, community and Kathak students from CICD performing Kathak and creative movements.

Ritu Sringar (1991)

Performed as part of the Leicestershire Festival of Drama and Dance. It showcased the six seasons of India through classical, folk and creative dances by hundreds of children from local schools, communities, dance teachers and Kathak students from CICD.

Kathak Tarana / Stars and Stripes (1993)

Performed by various levels of Kathak students, training at Arts in Education, presenting Sargam taken from the launch of "Aditi" (National South Asian Dance Organisation). This is followed by Tarana incorporated with Kathak technical dance pieces.

Arts in Education students of dance and music presenting Kathak in the rhythm of 10 beat time cycle called Zaptal, performing technical compositions and footwork.

Jungle Book (1993)

Jungle Book (1993)

A production based on Rudyard Kipling stories about “man-cub” Mowgli who is raised in the jungle by wolves, performed by school children in Kathak and creative styles. Indian dancing showed how Mowgli set fire in the forest.

Arabian Nights / Aladdin (1993)

Arabian Nights / Aladdin (1993)

Based on the tales of Aladdin, this dance-drama presented more than 40 young people trained by Nilima Devi at Knighton Fields Dance and Drama Center, perform in the style of classical Kathak, folk and creative dances.

Arts in Education students performing Kathak dance pieces, beginning with an invocation, followed by Kathak technical compositions. Second piece represents the story of Kaliya Daman where youung Krishna fights with very vicious cobra and dances on its head. This story reflects the victory of good over evil. Final piece is Kathak Tarana incorporated with technical compositions and footwork.

Dance-drama based on the theme of American Indians and their constant struggle for survival and day-to-day life performed in Kathak and creative dance styles by school children from Arts in Education.
